"I love photographing people," states Tim Coffey. And you need look no further than the home page of his Web site for evidence of his assertion. Excited bar mitzvah kids crowd into a group shot; a laughing bride and bridesmaid juggle an exploding bottle of champagne; and a chubby cheeked little girl grins at an inquisitive cat. Even the subjects of his corporate shots exude so much personality that they seem at times to come popping out of their pictures. "People today want photography to capture emotion," Coffey explains. So, it's not surprising they turn to a photographer who is unabashedly passionate about what he does. That's why, about ten years ago, he left a successful career in television marketing to follow his passion and opened a studio in Stamford. Coffey does it all, but we detected a particular affection for weddings. "Every wedding has its own uniqueness," he says. "I take my lead from the couples that I shoot. I like to begin by asking them how they met to learn more about who they are and what their connection is to one other. When you're a guest you get a limited time with the bride and groom. I get to see it all up close." Coffey also offers portrait specials, like his recent Mommy & Me shoot or last year's photos of kids in their Halloween costumes in exchange for a donation to Toys for Tots. But his satisfied clientele appears to need very little to lure them back before his lens. "They are very eager to refer me to friends and family," he says. "I've been in business long enough that my former wedding clients have children they bring in for portraits. I think to myself, 'I was there before the kid!'"
