The rolls come from Chaves Bakery in Bridgeport, they've got homemade chili, relish and sauerkraut and the dogs come from Hummel Bros. in New Haven. But the story doesn't end there for the Super Duper Weenie weenies. "It's been 17 years of nonstop killer hot dogs and french fries for me," co-owner and creator Gary Zemola said. He's got his well-publicized favorites: the New Englander, with bacon, kraut and relish; the New Yorker, a spicy dog inspired by the carts in NYC; and the Cincinnatian, with a Mediterranean-style chili, onions and cheddar. But has he lived the hot dog life for so long that he looks down upon those who simply want ketchup on their dog? "I don't mind you ordering a dog with ketchup," he says, "especially if you're a little kid." He adds a word of advice, though: "Try not to order sweet relish with ketchup." They spend too much time on the cucumber relish for you to go and ruin it with the mysterious tomato paste. After all this time, Zemola says, "I still love hot dogs. I can't eat 'em anymore, but I do."
