Sublime Sounds

posted by John Adamian

In the brand new Believer music issue there's an extended interview with Alan Bishop, of the Sun City Girls, and of the amazing label Sublime Frequencies, which releases everything from rare recordings of 70s pop from Thailand, Cambodia and Burma, modern-day field recordings from Mali, atmospheric mash-ups from Morocco, and lots more. Bishop is a bold polymath, a super-smart guy, and incredible musician, basically a self-taught ethnomusicological scholar and a passionate defender of the importance of regional culture.
