Russo Kicks Butt, Plus: New Location

posted by

Hi All:

You can now find me and the blog at www.onlyinbridgeport.com. Same cool stuff, different location.

My thanks to the fantastico folks at the Weekly such as Editor Tom Gogola. I hope to continue my association with the Weekly, including my weekly column. The blog, thanks to you, is one of the hottest in the state and I've decided to moderate it in a new location. Please continue to read and visit the great stuff here at the Fairfield County Weekly. Great reporting, fantastic writers. Good people.

---------------------------

Bridgeport’s Democratic political organization got its ass kicked Tuesday night in a total humiliation for – and repudiation of -- Mayor Bill Finch and party leader John Stafstrom, both of whom have proven conclusively that they don’t know how to run a citywide political organization.

Republican Rob Russo, riding a potent message in support of Gov. Jodi Rell’s proposal to cap local property taxes at three percent, made the third time the charm blasting his Democratic opponent Tom Mulligan, with 60 percent of the vote, to win the state senate seat vacated by Finch.

Bridgeport’s so-called vaulted political machine needs to be oiled. Turnout in the city was just 10 percent with Russo running much stronger than expected in Bridgeport and running up huge numbers in Trumbull and Monroe.

Overall in Trumbull Russo won 2236 to 893.

In Monroe it was Russo 522 to 204.

In Bridgeport, despite an overwhelming voter registration advantage, Mulligan managed to take the city, unofficially, by just 1094 to 833. Russo won Winthrop School in the North End and Hooker School on the Upper East Side. This election will have ramifications for the upcoming selection of Bridgeport’s Democratic town chairman and provide hope for a Republican party that has watched Dems have their own way.

Total overall numbers for the three towns, Russo 3639, Mulligan 2215.

Bridgeport by precinct unofficially

Winthrop, Russo 215, Mulligan 207

Blackham, Russo 207, Mulligan 248

Central, Russo 113, Mulligan 133

Longfellow, Russo 45, Mulligan 124

Black Rock, Russo 248, Mulligan 352

Bassick, Russo 5, Mulligan 29

St. Paul, Russo 30, Mulligan 32

Hooker, Russo 75, Mulligan 62

Park City, Russo 63, Mulligan 71

Trumbull precincts

Hillcrest, Russo 362, Mulligan 121

Booth, Russo 393, Mulligan 120

Tashua, Russo 340, Mulligan 151

Jane Ryan, Russo 310, Mulligan 108

Middlebrook, Russo 286, Mulligan 164

Madison, Russo 310, Mulligan 120

Frenchtown, Russo 234, Mulligan 109

The "Oracle of Omaha" says the real big winner in today's race will be Mario Testa. Testa's stock price went up today coinciding with record jump in the stock market. Only Testa can bring back the well oiled machine which has grown rusty and dusty under Stafstrom and Roach. The biggest loser will be Bill Finch. "Finch is weaker than the dollar" said Buffet.
Posted by Warren "All You Can Eat" Buffet on 3.11.08 at 16.02
The other real winners are Keeley, Hennessy and Caruso. I feel sorry for Grogins, Lyons or Paoletto because they are going to be tattooed for their affiliation with Finch. Stafstrom and Roach and the Mulligan campaign did not reach out to the above mentioned incumbents or their supporters and look at the results.

Mulligan lost because he took those of us in Bridgeport for granted. He did little other than accept status quo, delivering the standard liberal omitted mention of ruling out caps on taxes or raising our taxes. We've been taxed to death and what does Bridgeport have to show for it? Not enough. Congratulations Rob. Now keep your promises. And let's get rid of the "machine."

I stand corrected !!!!!! I can admit I was wrong !!!! But I am right its all SASSYSTROMS fault !!!!!! Just wait till MARIO comes back !!!! All these losers WILL BE GONE !!!

it look like you guys are all right mulligan took bpt for granted and look what happen he didnt win bpt by a big margin he even lost precincts in bpt, well another fact is many democrats voted for russo because the democrats in are city has just raised taxes out the roof and im one of those democrats who was fed up and voted for Russo
Posted by jude on 3.11.08 at 16.17
Russo (R) - 3639 Mulligan (D) - 2215 and that means russo did well in the city of bridgeport

Pulled it off despite the mulligan campaign's attempt to disenfranchize voters at trumbull polling places

Just in from the homefront. Ralph Ford was seen canoodling with Mario up at Testo's. He wants to be the Kingmaker and short-sheet the Latin Kingmaker "Switch" Robles. It's all over but the crying for John and Danny.
Posted by It's All Over on 3.11.08 at 16.42
I just can't see the blacks going with Double Dealing Danny. He has a poor record of minority representation in his district. Mario has helped more minorities than the minorities.
Posted by Malcolm in the Middle on 3.11.08 at 16.48
looks like Roach struck out without even swinging. I was there the night Grogins lost the Bd. of Education seat and proclaimed her candidacy for the state senate seat to our Black Rockers present. The bravado that night turned me off to Danny and all the rest of these petty potentates. Roach is the next big loser; don't we have any good people here in Black Rock to run for office? Consider me a former ally and looking for an anti slate to help out. Mr. Roach, YOU ARE OUT OF HERE!
Posted by the umpire on 3.11.08 at 17.04
Damn shame about Mulligan...thanks again for another loss Stafstrom! Mulligan got thrown to the wolves because the Queen was too busy with his own issues and couldn't be bothered. As far as Roach, dude, give up, you don't have a prayer and that idiot Scinto hanging on to you as the newspaper said, is just laughable. What does he have to offer, 4 votes for a loser? Besides him and his girlfriend - who are the other 2 who are afraid to say no? Like it or not, Mario is going to win, so get used to it. And to think roach and Scinto are district leaders is b.s.
Posted by Curious on 3.11.08 at 17.19
It's too bad about Mulligan losing, but Stafstrom did'nt do right by him. Testo would have worked hard for him to win. The paper today said Scinto is going with Danny, I can't figure that one out, Scinto is stupid to support him when everyone know he has no chance. I thought Danny was going to be with Testo anyway.
Posted by latin cat on 3.11.08 at 17.26
Tom and Rob are two real good guys, both sincere , both concerned with Bpt. and environs and as a result something good will come of this. Cheers Rob and remember it appears it was all about taxes. I hope the Dems see this as well and I'm one of Dems.
Posted by Black Rockin on 3.11.08 at 17.27
If Roach does'nt stick to his word to support Mario, then his credibiloity is worth zero. Him and Scinto will go down the tubes together. Wise up guys before it's too late to save yourselves. Between the 2 of them, I count they have maybe 10 or 12 votes, now how dumb is that.
Posted by Curious on 3.11.08 at 17.36
wow im shocked that russo did that good in bridgeport. im puzzled to how russo could carry precincts in bridgeport. wow instead of working together and getting mulligan elected we chose to argue and all. and if republicans are wining precincts here in bpt ,boy are we in for some big trouble

Anyone who thinks there's a "machine" in Bridgeport should have stopped by Mulligan headquarters over the last week. Nothing going on most of the time. Most Bridgeport Democrats, most DTC members, most insiders didn't lift a finger for poor Tom Mulligan. He got thrown under a bus and then backed over again. Period. He didn't deserve this. What a pathetic "machine".
Posted by Broken Down Machine on 3.11.08 at 17.55
mulligan won black rock but i thought he woud have had a stronger showing there because thats his home precinct. and actually black rock was his strongest precinct even though he didnt win big there because every other in precinct in bridgeport was close

I'm tired, exhausted, hurting, hungry, sleepy. But I'm ready for another election or primary next week. The last 4 months has been one heck of a journey. As the political environment began to shape I had to adapt as it hcanged week to week. During my first few weeks collecting signatures to qualify to challenge Danny Roach's Democratic Town Committte, I knew that the turn out would be low and that Danny Roach nor the people they have been endorsing weren't well liked as much as they believed. What is Joel gonzalez going to do to make it up to Tom Mulligan? Tommorrow morning I'm going to pick up one of those Recycling Bins that Finch is giving away and put Mullingan in it. I wonder who is coming for November?

Since last Saturday moring I began to campaign for Rob Russo. I got some (2) lawn signs from Russo's Headquartes. I stole 2 others I saw in less visible locations (sorry Russo) I called some of the people (home owners) I had spoken to and met during the my primary campaign. I told them that the $16 Million deficit man did not think that a Cap was a good idea and that the only way to stop him was to simply wave signs and smile. I Stole 8 more Russo signs (sorry again) and gave out 8 signs to the true crew. I put in 11 hours on Saturday holding up a RUSSO for State Senate sign on heavily traveled areas of Black Rock and other roads leading there. Sunday I did the same all day (8 hours) in Black Rock again. Monday morning I was on Fairfield Avenue near the I-95 entrance ramp from 9 a.m. around 11a.m. as I continued to hold the RUSSO sign and calling the attention of the drivers, I noticed a familiar face and car, a gray Lincoln heading towards Black Rock with a white Italian male driving. He didn't look happy to see what he was seeing. Sorry I made you frown Mario Testa. Around 12:10 noon a red 2 door car slows down and it's driver side door opens and a man yells "Joel, I admire your courage, I'm John from Black Rock." at around 12:15 noon BLUE-15 pulls up and ordered me to take my signs and get out of the area. Either my admirer John from Black Rock ratted on me or the Frowning Italian sent his Roaches after me. Who do you think reported me? Joel calling BLUE-15, there is a crushed Democrat in Black Rock.

So, our long national nightmare is over... the opposition party in Bridgeport now finally has a face, an agenda, and a megaphone. Lennie got it right... there was real shock when the numbers started coming in, and even Winthrop School went for the Republican. And what's remarkable is that Russo scored a huge victory in Trumbull and Monroe while talking about working on problems all three towns have in common... yes, he humped the tax issue up and down the 2-2 but -- he also went to the suburbs and told Trumbull/Monroe voters that their economic future is tied to Bridgeport's economic future. And they voted for him in surprising, overwhelming numbers. With that kind of buy-in he's set up to go out and deliver for Bridgeport, and make a show of it. Possession is nine-tenths of the law... it will be a good while before the seat flips back to the blue column. Anyhow, winning is better than the alternative.

Well the Democrats in Bridgeport elected another Republican. there was no real effort made by the DTC to help get Mulligan elected. The machine was unable to get the vote out in numbrs that would overcome the vote in Monroe and Trumbull. Mulligan was never going to overcome the 11%tax increase proposed in Trumbull and Monroe is Republican by nature. telephone banks were at best haphazard and in effective. There were few if any Mulligan signs, Many of the people called were unaware that there was an election taking place. Mulligan could not override the suburbs anger at Finch for taking so long to resign and basically telling the suburbs screw you. Mulligan could not override the tax cap which is so much BS at this time. It has worked in other states but in those states the state government funded property tax relief. There are questions that need to be asked by all the elected Bridgeport Democrats. 1. Will I get the same non effort from the Town Chairmen that Mulligan received. 2. Will I get less monitary help than I received in the past. 3. How many elections have we won under the leadership of Stafstrom. 4. Who has a proven track record of winning elections as the Town Chairmen.5. How many jobs is Finch willing to hand out to a select few to keep Stafstrom around. 6.What is Stafstrom holding over Finch,

When a good candidate (Tom McCarthy) and a competent Town Chairman (Mario Testa) run a REAL senate race against Mr. Russo, Little Rob Fauntleroy will find it much harder to prevail. Im not going to say "I told you so" to anyone on this one...but "I TOLD YOU SO!" Ant Dem in Bridgeport that truly believed they were going to win this one was drinking more Kool Aid than even a Caruso campaigner.

Glancing at some of the Bridgeport numbers is pretty disturbing. The Central precinct which includes could only get out 246 votes. Russo wins Winthrop. If I'm Auden, Michelle and Rich I would be having some strong second thoughts about running against the three proven strongest vote getters in the city. I see there are a couple of idiots out there today.

Well, well, well. The Republican won. I'm glad. I truly think that Russo is the right choice. We need effective representation in Hartford and Russo is respected, actually, by both sides. I wish him Godspeed. Voter turn as described by Len Grimaldi was "pathetic". I think Len's comment is optimistic. Good people of Bridgeport...unless you make the effort to get out and vote, you are destined to be governed by "hand picked" politicians that only the machinists want in office. Nearly 30 years of this type of government has made Bridgeport one of the least desirable cities in the entire country to work and live. This dilemma is the absolute fault of very few people who have firmly ensconced themselves in city management and have enriched only themselves at the dire expense of he people. We are overburdened by taxes. Our education system is outrageously expensive and provides little benefit if it is true that more than 65% of all of the students pre school and kindergarten will drop out without the benefit of a diploma and, worst, no useful skills. Our supposed bright future of economic development will require a skilled work force just to meet the anticipated jobs. These jobs will certainly go to people who are well educated in other communities. This education issue is something that Mayor Finch must pay attention to...right now. There are many other maladies that we have addressed ad nauseaum and will continue to rant about. Our problems can be solved. But, they will not be solved unless we elect a mayor who will realize that they can be solved. Our present mayor does what he is told and he is not being told to lower taxes, fix the education system, and improve the safety of the public. We knew Finch's propensity for business as usual and his commitment to machine politics. Too many empty promise from this guy. In addition to the $600 fabrication for votes he also swore that he would resign from the senate if elected. The Sal Dinardo tax forgiveness program is just another example of Finch doing what he is told. We can elect a mayor who will work for the people. It will require a great deal of effort to get apathetic voters to the polls. I agree with many that it should be Bruce Hubler, the republican. If Bruce is interested, the time is now to start developing a voter base. Russo's election is a minor of harbinger of what may happen. I think his election is an example that some of us are fed up with the practices that gave us Finch and the Machine. I think a sufficient number of democrats are beginning to see the same light. It looks to me like it can be done but it won't be done unless an organized effort is put in place.

Envoy5...Well said!!! The fine people of Bridgeport need to realize (and I think they are) that the Bridgeport DTC does not have what's best for the people of Bridgeport on their plates. People need to realize the promises and favoritism that is the BDTC will continue. The Bridgeport Republican TC will grow and gain the faith of the Independents and Democrats that are tired of being second place to the D'Addarios and Dinardos of this fine city. People need to realize that at the local level Republican/Democrat/Independent are just names. If you believe in jobs, fair government, lower taxes, accountability, better schools and the prosperity that was once this city join the opposition to the DTC.

Read the bill Caruso is pushing. All he wants is to preclude "lobbyists" from affecting decisions on boards on which they serve. That's very good public oversight. That's what we need from a politician. But what do we get from the public that Chris is trying to protect....a comment suggesting that he should have selected his lunch from the salad bar.

I'm your friend wether you accept it or not becasue I know you care about what is going on. While I was out there Sat. For the record I'm 1000% sure that John from Black Rock had nothing to do with my removal from my high perch on Faifield Avenue. Yahooy, Funny how on this blog its ok for people to make jokes about sexual orientation but the minute someone attacks the fat man he's a "sh*t head." My point in raising the issue was not to pass judgment on this particular bill but merely to point out how Caruso's abrasive management style has made him the laughing stock of Hartford- and yes the Courant (unlike the Post) LOVES to point this out. Plus for all his other faults, at least Finch can get though a meal without picking a fight. And who knows, maybe the lobbyist did get the last of the pudding before they fought about the bill.
Posted by Nutmegger on 3.12.08 at 8.45
The better candidate lost this election. Simply due to fellow democrats not doing their best effort. Trumbull putting a 11% tax increase on the ballot? What did they think was going to happen? I can't believe people voted for a candidate that supports a tax cap that is by definition against the states consitution, and infringes on municipal rights... Its amazing how someone who is now in the state government cannot see this... Big mistake people. Mulligan is much smarter than Russo, give Russo a couple months in the position, and Mulligan will soon be very missed.

I didn't expect anything but a shit head answer from a shit head. Read the Bill and comment about the merits of the Bill. Caruso is certainly too fat for his own good and should take immediate steps to lose weight before the adverse effects of morbid obesity ravage his body and render him an invalid. Pavarotti was a fat man, now he is dead yet his virtuoso was compelling. Little was said in a derogatory manner about his weight. Caruso is fat....fact. Caruso is abrasive and has the management style of Idi Amin without the warmth.....fact. Caruso is an honest legislator who has the best interest of the people ahead of the self serving sycophants who think they can run this state and city t their own will.....fact.

I was wondering does anyone know if the city still has an ethics commission. I would guess that we do but they really dont deal with ethics unless directed to by the mayor. the reason I bring this up is that noone has raised the ethics issue with Stafstrom and Finch. How ethical is it for Stafstrom to resign as town chairmen name his replacement (King) and appoint himself vice chair of the DTC. Stafstrom did this to by pass the State law that prohibits him from being chairmen because of his business dealings with the city and State. This was all done without an election by the TC. How ethical is it for Stafstrom and Finch to pressure city employees on the town committee to vote as they wish in favor of Stafstrom. how ethical is it to fill 2 job vacancies on the city payroll when the mayor had previously announced a hiring freeze. Is it ethical that one of these jobs went to District leader Dennis Scintos girlfriend and the other went to Johann D who has promised her vote to all 3 candidates for the DTC and is on Scintos town committee. How ethical is it to pay someone $35K to be a greeter at city hall when there is a $16Million shortfall in revenue. How ethical is this administration? One has to wonder based on Finch's performance to date. How ethical is it that as DTC you have won only 1 election and lost to many to count. How ethical is it that as DTC you let Mulligan swing in the breeze as you ran a campaign that was non existant. You people that are backing Stafstrom beware you could be next on Stafstroms hit list, he is a petulant little shit.

Posted by Ikey on 3.12.08 at 9.51
wondering - would it be more ethical if you or one of your supporters go those jobs? I just don't think its that big of a deal, finch didn't create those jobs, he's just filling vacancies. As far as that greeter job, I'm told it involves a lot more than just saying hi to people. You guys just live to create controversy. Who should Finch give jobs to - his enemies?
Posted by Curious on 3.12.08 at 9.54
Ikey It's SPITZER, you dunderhead! You been hanging out with Finch? I think Spitzer likes to lay beautiful women. So do I. If he wants to pay tens of thousands of dollars to do that. Good for him. Do I think he should be held to a higher standard? Certainly. At one time he was the top cop in NY. Prostitution is against the law. He broke the law he swore to uphold. Smuck. Do I think he should have resigned the Governorsjip because of his hooker dalliances? Yes. Why? We disparately need to respect those in office. We have to trust them. After all, they are taking our money to do things that are supposed to be good for us. Secondly, he essentially violated his marriage promises. Leopards don't change their spots. The bigger issue, which I think will come to the surface very soon, is where he got the money to pay the hookers. It looks like the IRS is asking the same question. I wonder if GAnim knows Spitzer. Maybe Ganim can show Eliot the ropes.

Curious you are kidding? Right. We have a $16million short fall and a supposed hiring freeze and you see nothing wrong with a greeters job. The greeters job is real complicated and takes the place of the wall signs directing a person to a particular office. I was not am not nor do i want a city job nor do my supporters who are all gainfully employed elsewhere. You miss the point there was a Finch announced job freeze but these select jobs are promised to people that will back Stafstrom for Town chair. You think that is right? In either case after the election that job will be eliminated because a sign can do the same thing and does not need benefits

To little league Dad and Umpire. This is not and should stop being about just Black Rock. This is not just about little league children. This is about the 130 th. district and the entire City of Bridgeport as a whole. This is about Children, Senior Citizens, Renters, Home owners and many other players involved. Little league dad, I'm happy that the Ellsworth field has funds for in place for its improvements. On the other hand, I question why the Park at P.T. Barnum did not get any improvement funds. For too many years this park has lacked bathrooms facilities as children, woman and the general Public had to live with the common scene of men urinating in plain view. Umpire asks, " Do we have any good people here in Black Rock to run for office?" You too have the only Black Rock mentality. Yes, there are good people in Black Rock but they don't want to be part of the machine there and many are Republicans. Good Democrats like Roberto Garcia (Harvard grad. and frmr City welfare director, fired by Ganim), Judge, Carmen Lopez, John Marshall Lee and Mr. Greenberg to name a few. But don't forget about the rest of the district Joel Gonzalez on the West Side and Donna Fewell (Pres. of p.t. tenant assoc.) in P.T. Barnum. Little league dad , as for Keeley and the others, they have too have ignored or segregated sections of their districts. The question I'm asking my self is, should I proceed as a Democrat, Independent or Republican?

Envoy5 - from what I'm told, one of those girls is pretty smart and experienced and is supposedly is selling herself short at $35K to be a greeter. She reportedly has supported Finch since he first ran for Senate years ago. The Scinto girlfriend, I don't hear much, but if she's his girlfriend, I'm not even going to finish my sentence. I guess 1 out of 2 isn't bad, although I have no clue as to the qualifications of the other one, so maybe i'm too judgmental.

Joel I agree about the 130th and Black Rock. I believe there are some discussions about expanding field of dreams over in P.T. I think Keeley is working on it with B.H.A..

If any of you think that this election was about Russo beating Mulligan, or their differing views, it wasn't... It had to do with the dnc, thats it. If Mulligan runs in September, it will be nothing less than a massacre and russo's short few month reign will be over.

knowingwhatsup it's obvious that you don't. Mulligan won't be running in September because the general election with Russo will be in November. Furthermore after such a dismal run in special election by Mulligan. Trumbull Dems will be cultibating their own candidate. Remember Scarpetti won her seat in '92 and '96 presidential years so it is not a lock for Dems. Speaking of WAZZZUP! Martin Lawrence in "College Road Trip" is now in theaters and some scenes were filmed in Bridgeport, WesConn and Choate.

Posted by knowingwhatsup on 3.12.08 at 12.21 Re: You clearly didn't look at the numbers well. The Bridgeport results didn't even matter that much because Russo destroyed Mulligan in Trumbull and Monroe. None of them were even close and all bigger than Mulligan's biggest win in BPT, Black Rock. A stark difference from the prior two elections when Finch won Trumbull one time and kept Monroe really close. Trumbull is clearly pissed off at Baldwin and this proposed 11.6% tax increase and Russo's support of the tax cap is the perfect counter. The article in the CT Post on Sunday showed how angry they were. Bridgeport Dems may be shocked again in November, because their usual belief that, if they just win BPT like normal that Trumbull and Monroe won't matter, will not work.

Yeh, she's smart and all, but the new greeter-to-be also has great legs and a HUGE chest!! I'm going to go visit city hall.

CONGRATULATIONS ROB RUSSO. THANK YOU LENNY FOR YOUR TESTIMONY & THE NEW WEB SITE LOOKS GREAT. Comments about the Conroy/Steelpoint Trial Unfortunately, the legal dept. of the City of Bridgeport is totally out of control. They NEVER negotiate - they always litigate, drag it on for years and ultimately lose the case. The legal dept. with Mr. Anastasi has already cost the city an additional $2.5 million on the bill due for the arena. They could have negotiated with Mr. Conroy and settled but this allows them to increase their budget, and hire additional attorneys at fairly large fees. They had the opportunity to settle the case with the Black Rock Art Center but next week enter into arbitration that will cost the city thousands. The Absolute Truth is that THE CITY OF BRIDGEPORT'S LEGAL DEPARTMENT IS TOTALLY OUT OF CONTROL.

Wondering, I agree with you on the so-called hiring freeze. For a regular joe, no jobs, but for election's volunteers its wide open on city jobs! And remember, that greeting's job at the front desk is already filled by a councilperson so he must be going to bigger & better things? Then you got the made up part-time for that guy's girl friend too! Thats #3 jobs right there, plus the job they took away from the Fabrizi guy is still open. But the Mayor's not worried cause; the $16 million short-fall is only a temp. excuse to make people forget about the tax break promise he made of $600. during his election! Now the so-called answer to pluge the money holes is to sell pleasure beach, like that money's going to show up sometime soon? Everybody knows how slow the Gov. works, what a hoax! They should let the voting tax-payers decide weather or not to sell, like Stratford is talking about doing.

Martin Lawrence and Notknowingwhatsup: First of all you say look at the numbers, I am saying yes, thats shows with how the dnc supported their candidate... You did not refute anything I said. Bridgeport: This is the perfect example. The low turnout was the cause of the close election... Look at the % turnout for the reps and then for the dems, huge difference... Its not the candidate...If anyone took a look for 2 seconds russo they would see his "tax cap" plan is by definition, against the state constitution, no question about it... Its pure insanity... His ideas were pretty damn shallow...This was all about simply getting your party members from their house to the polls... The most popular dem candidate couldn't have won here. The dems did not hold Mulligan accountable, he is by far the best council member... His vote against the blackrock arts center was one of the many independent votes he made while other folded to political pressure... Trumbull: Proposing an 11% tax increase was the cause of the numbers there, no question, that was such a awful, awful move... I don't know what they were thinking. Monroe: Who cares, dems shouldn't even waste their energy in that area... Also, how come no one mentions how long it took finch to give up the seat...To say that people held Mulligan accountable is a pure fallacy...It is completely asinine...

Mulligan was a poor candidate, Nice guy...poor candidate. The Mayor and the Bridgeport DTC failed miserably. Russo profited from a fractured DTC, poor Democratic leadership, a weak candidate, Rell's popularity, ad nauseam... With Mario as chairman that platinum-spoon-in-the-mouth brat is going to actually have to work to keep that seat. He will fall. If not in this election then in the next. Finch didn't have help from Mario because he bit the hand that fed him and that's why he was able to run close the last two times. To be continued...

Everyone knows goverment works slow, just look @ steel point and the time its taken, and still I don't believe its in full scale operation "GO", along with other developments slated to create revenue for Bpt. So what make's the sale of Pleasure Beach any different ; the plover birds, all #9 of them are not going anywhere soon? Why the rush to sell something that really belongs to the citizens & tax payers of Bpt.? Is the $20-million check going to be in the mail the following day after the sale? Mayor Moon-beam claims he'll use it to plug up the $16-million deficit that was left him from the last admin.? How convenient, a deficit just when he was going to give Bpt. tax payers a $600. tax-reduction as promised during his elections campaign. Bpt. will not see anything done with pleasure beach anytime soon, weather we keep it, or decide to sell to the Wildlife administration, just like everything else that involves the Goverment. Besides on a decision like this, it should be voted on by Bpt. citizens, not Mayor Moonbeam or the #20 muppets! And what exactly is the definition of a city-job hiring freeze mean in Bpt.? Another joke in the Moon-beam Admin. that seems to be run by people that don't live in Bpt. for the most part!

Russo was born with a silverspoon in his mouth & in time will end up catering mostly to the white-collar establishment & professional types. He is far from being for the regular joe, so to speak and in his debates with Mulligan, he was merely going through the motions on what people wanted to hear from his last debates with Finch. He'll make a true blue capitol politician no-doubt, full of hot air! Mulligan may seem a bit old fashion and dry humor @ times but he speaks from the heart and is more of a working middle-class type of guy that cares about Bpt. its neighbors and its people. And shame on the City & State democrats for not backing and working as hard as they did for Finch & Gomes, when they ran for state senate! Thats why the party is in turmoil & is going to need someone like Testo to get them back together again, if its not already to late?
Posted by Mojo on 3.14.08 at 17.23
Rumors have it; Mayor Finch has been calling Bpt. city workers that sit on the Bpt. Dem. Party and politely reminded them about possible up coming job cuts or possible promotions for those in acting positions so to speak, depending how they vote for the present Queen & King team? Also, stacking the civil sevice commission with his people to try and over turn the #36 jobs saved by Fabrizi back in 2007! Then give them to Finch supporters after the new buget season, July 1st. 08. "Freeze, what freeze"?

WHY DOES THIS JOEL GUY THINK HE'S SUCH A POLITICAL FORCE TO DEAL WITH, AND SOUND LIKE IT WAS HIS DOING'S THAT HELPED RUSSO IN THE SENATE ELECTIONS IN B/R? IS HE A REPUBLICAN NOW OR JUST SEARCHING FOR SOME LOVE? HE'S CERTAINLY QUITE A CHARACTER; LIKE THE KIND YOU WOULD SEE ON CARTOONS ON SATURDAY MORNING'S ! BPT. POLITICS CERTAINLY HAS SOME FUNNY PLAYERS TO SAY THE LEAST. MUST BE THE DRUGS & ALCOHOL, IT DOES TAKE ITS TOLL AFTER A WHILE YOU KNOW. OH, WELL !

Well out with the new & back with the old, and it could not have happen @ a better time! The Dem. Party has been in dire need of a real chairman that respects his people and treats them fairly and that person is Testo. Not a user, call you when I need you only type, with no balls like the past Queen & King duet. Maybe now, the party can concentrate on getting rid of a few more pretenters that are there for personal gain only! Time will tell, cause it all comes full circle sooner or later!

Bob Russo is a good man and Bpt needs a guy like him what we don't need is another Dinardo /Testo puppet that's what MUsto from trumbull is another ham and egger controlled by Sal Dinardo and Mario Testo do we really want that we do not need another Bill Finch as state Senator who is now BPT mayor because if Bill did not run Chris Caruso would have been the new mayor and the other candidates cannot draw people out like Caruso . Finch was well known and it was a tight race close enough that the democratic machine testo, dinardo were able to fix the election abd get their man Finch in who now is at odds with the party but that is temporary eventually bill will always bow to his masters and everything runs as always in BPT corruption, kickbacks do we reall y want bthat this is why you VOTE REPUBLICAN for BOB RUSSO.

I will say that reading some of these comments I can only be amused by the stupidity and ego's of some of these people. I read a comment by Joel Hater who stated wait till mario is back up these no-names will be out referring to Russo defeating Mulligan does anyone know why Mulligan was chosen to run ?????? to all you stupids out there Mulligan was chosen because Caruso was going to put up his buddy who is also a state rep to run I forget his name and so Testo and Dinardo quickly put Mulligan in there otherwise no one really wanted it except for Mcarthy who was elected council president anyone else would not have had a chance so now they have pulled Musto out of trumbull because he is clean the rest in bpt will never win votes in trumbull or monroe so that's how that story goes but anyone who wishes the best for people like dinardo or testo you have got to be a loser and a lowlife because the good people do not tolerate tax cheats like dinardo or gangsters like testo this is why you have to go with RUSSO the republican because the bpt democrats are all bums and losers that all rely on their city work checks every week and do nothing to earn them this is what BPT is all about and the good person who is more qualified to get a city job cannot get one because people like dinardo and testo block the good from getting hired they want all the puppetts and losers to have jobs so they can control them CARUSO should be mayor and let's keep RUSSO as our state senator oh by the way I like the comments made by bella italia let's keep the hope alive.
